From Our Out-going President:
It has been a joy and a privilege to lead Millay House Rockland (MHR) through the recent years of restoring the birthplace of Edna St. Vincent Millay and beginning to plan programs to celebrate the legacy of Millay and the history and literary heritage of this inspiring midcoast area. I am delighted to turn over the presidency to Meg Weston, founder of the Poets Corner and former president of Maine Media. I will continue as secretary of the board and help to raise the funds for our wish-list of projects that have long remained a dream of our small non-profit literary organization: a part-time staff person and a lovely garden retreat on our backlot.
As a historian, I love the stories of Rockland—this industrious seacoast town—its landscape and seascape, its boats, ships, wharves, fish- packing plants, Breakwater, and its quarries, kilns, farms, and mountains. It is amazing that out of this small, hard-working, blue-collar town came poets, musicians, performers, artists, photographers, business leaders, politicians, and four Civil War generals.
We are fortunate to have the Millay House—a literary landmark—to remind us and future generations that greatness can come from the humble beginnings of a small, rural, seacoast town like Rockland. May we all help Millay House Rockland develop programs to encourage and inspire writers for many years to come.
Best wishes always,
Ann Morris
